Bonnie Coumbe – A Sydney based photographer who specializes in food and travel photography.
Growing up on a sustainable property surrounded by the forest and a lifestyle based on respecting nature, gave Bonnie the foundation for a meaningful connection with food and where it’s comes from.
Bonnie remembers sipping fresh frothy milk straight from the family’s dairy cow Jenny, collecting vegetables daily from the garden and meat from the farm animals. All cooked over a wood fueled slow combustion stove. She recalls the smell of home cooking and the waft of smoke in the air.
Bonnie really did have a farm to table up bringing.
From an early age she was obsessed with all things culinary; her neighbor and Bonnie regularly baked up a storm and filmed cooking shows together in her parent’s kitchen, with all the trimmings and drama of a Julia Child show!
A gift of a Minolta SLR at a young age was the spark that created her love of photography. It wasn’t until a re-focus of a career in the design industry for over 15 years, working with global celebrities and high fashion labels. As well as a burning desire to take flight and escape to the other side of the world, that brought her back to her true passion of photography, culinary culture and traveling the globe through a foodie’s eyes.
Inspired by her experiences; truffle hunting in Provence, visiting the lavender fields overlooked by the asylum that Vincent Van Gogh stayed in France, to climbing the Pine covered Mountains of Kyoto seeking out secluded restaurants perched over running rivers below, visiting the weird and wonderfully textured produce markets of Hong Kong to taking a food pilgrimage of Apulia’s regional food culture. Is all part of the adventures Bonnie has captured.
Bonnie blends her passion and creative background with a distinct style of story telling through the lens, often involving in the styling process, as well as creative direction.
